ST. REGIS - FRENCH - INDIAN TRADE ITEM - BRASS & STERLING GORGET W/ PROVENANCE

You are considering one of the oldest items I have ever offered on Ebay. Many of the artifacts I have posted on EBay were purchased around 40 years ago from a 3rd generation TRADER by the name of “Pat Read” who owned shops in Albuquerque, Sante Fe, Rancho de Taos, and Lawrence, Ks., dating back to the 1920’s. The French Canadian Gorget belonged to Pat's grandfather and stayed in his collection until my family purchased this item. This French Canadian military style gorget was used as a trade item with many of the Indians and in this case, with the St. Regis area in Canada. Pat's original tag is still attached to this artifact. I have included photos of the front and back to read the more of the provenance; please ignore the price, which could have easily been on this item since the 1940's or earlier.
A quick GOOGLE search will show you that the name on the tag, Ranvoyze was a Hallmark used by a French Quebec City maker between 1730-1820's; ironically what is written exactly on Pat Read's sales tag at least 75 years ago.
NEW INFORMATION: I discovered two things regarding this item, please see in my third listing photo, I have discovered a HALLMARK "R" under one of the ornate buttons, which I believe to be that of the maker, "Ranvoyze." I also discovered there is what appears to be another sterling silver back plate under the felted area shown in my fifth listing photo. These are all in keeping with this provenance I have provided.
The gorget was most likely made for an military officer. The item is made of domed brass with a gorgeous sterling silver Fighting Cock emblem seen attached at the center. The piece contains two gold thread embroidered buttons at each end where a material would have attached to wrap around the person's neck. The backside has a type of cloth or felting applied. The piece is in spectacular antique condition and would be a great addition to any collection.

Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition and as part of my description. As mentioned above, the gorget is beautifully crafted and designed. The item is in amazing antique condition. The piece measures approximately 6 inches wide by 4 inches in height by 1 5/8 inches in depth. The two buttons at each end are still present and in fine condition. You are considering a stunning French Canadian military artifact, which was commonly traded to the Indians and used for their own adornment. Good luck to my winner of this fine piece.
