Welcome toANTIQUES & MOORE!
This listing is for a stunning American Brilliant Period (ABP) cut glass trumpet vase by Hawkes in their highly desirable QUEENS pattern, c. 1880-1900. This elaborate pattern features an intricately cut design in horizontal panels alternating with round cut thumbprints cut in 1/2" thick lead crystal. The design extends about half way down the body of the vase and becomes a thumbprint pattern on the stem with a large diamond cut knob below and then has a panel cut design above the heavy base. The base is cut with a design that covers the entire bottom. A vase cut in the Queens pattern is illustrated on page 217, figure 810 of the book "American Cut & Engraved Glass" by Martha Louise Swan. This pattern is considered to be rare and is among the most sought after patterns of the American Brilliant Period cut glass creations.
Measures 13 3/4" high with a top diameter of 6" and a 5 1/2" diameter base. Weighs 5 pounds.
This impressive vase is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws other than a small speck of debris/discoloration in the tip of the pointed bottom of the vase section. There may be a tiny nick or two on the cut edges of the design, however, we found nothing at all wrong with this vase. Base does reflect minor rubbing from normal wear.
