    Description

    Welcome to
    ANTIQUES & MOORE!
This listing is for a stunning signed Hawkes American Brilliant Period cut glass whiskey decanter/jug , c. 1890-1900. The decanter has a round lower body with lovely cut pattern that encircles the glass with a scalloped paneled cut shoulder and extending up to the mouth. The edges of each panel is cut with a zipper design with two horizontal bands cut around the neck. The wide handle has a notch cut down the middle and on both edges with a flat thumb-hold on top. The stopper has a paneled tall neck and is is cut in an all-over diamond prism cutting. The decanter is marked with the Hawkes acid etched trademark stamp with "Hawkes" signed below.
Measures 9 1/4" high (including stopper), 6 1/2" high (to top of handle) and is almost 5" in diameter (at base). Weighs 4.8 pounds.
On initial inspection this nice decanter appears to be in excellent condition, however, there is a large chip on bottom edge. This is barely noticed when looking at the decanter while it is in an upright position with only a small flaw showing. When you lift the decanter, although the chip is very prominent, the glass is so thick at the base that the decanter will still hold liquid without leaking. Although we obviously wish the chip was not there, this decanter is gorgeous and makes a great display as an example of the outstanding quality and craftsmanship of Hawkes cut glass during the American Brilliant period. There may also be a tiny nick or two on the cut edges of the pattern, however, we did not find anything else wrong with this beautiful decanter.
