    Description

American Brilliant Cut Glass Bowl Russian Canterbury Hawkes Compote 10 inch ABP
    Attributed to Hawkes
This listing is for: An American Brilliant Cut Glass
Russian Canterbury Pattern Footed Low Bowl / Compote
A well balanced Russian Canterbury pattern:
large motifs at the top, graduating down to
smaller ones at the bottom of the bowl.
The quality of the glass is exceptional,
    sparkling and water white.
Most of the Russian Pattern Glass pieces made
in the late 1880s were not signed according to Martha
    Louise Swan in her book
    American Cut & Engraved Glass
    .
The rim is made up of scallops and points,
or known as scalloped and cornered rim.
A rim made by both Hawkes and Dorflinger.
    The Canterbury Russian pattern
has highly polished 12 point pyramidal stars
    and 16 point stars.
    Ten elongated bullseye motifs encircle
the edge of the clear glass bottom of the bowl.
The stem is faceted with 5 points.
    The base is cut
    entirely in t
    he the Russian Canterbury pattern.
Condition: The rim is in excellent condition with no chips.
A few very light scratches and a few tiny inclusions
at bottom of bowl. Some of these inclusions are contained
within the stem; as noted in photo above. It's really not
easy to photograph this, as it's difficult to differentiate between
the normal white noise of the camera and inclusions.
Not readily seen unless tilted to the light.
A few very tiny nips to the outside bowl pattern.
Considering its age, the bowl is really in wonderful antique
    condition.
    Approximate Measurements:
    10-1/4 inches top diameter
    6 inches high
And weighs approximately 7 pounds without packing materials.

    Thanks for stopping by.
    Please examine the photos
    as they are
    to be
considered part of the description. Thank you.
Please remember to scroll down to the end of the listing,
as there are times I receive questions and they will be answered there.
Or there may be a bid on the item,
so I have added an addendum to the description for
something that I may have forgotten.
Please keep in mind that I'm not selling new items.
They usually are antique or vintage,
can be a hundred or more years old and have been gently used.
Edge wear on gold is to be considered as normal and the usual.
Also, please remember that old glass
    and porcelain were not manufactured
with the sophisticated technology that we have today,
therefore there may be glaze pops,
black pin dots, and minor factory flaws.
    Excellent Condition, Mint Condition,
or any descriptive term used when describing
the physical attributes of glass and porcelain are very, very subjective.
What I may consider very good condition, someone else may disagree.
Keeping this in mind, I will make
every effort to objectively describe the item at hand.
    Approximate sizes and weights
are always included in the description.
    Please examine the photos carefully;
as they are to be considered part of the description.
